That turquoise shirt looks different lately.
Is it shrinking? It
seems to be losing its shape a little.
No, it still looks okay.
Not even faded – the color is still as bright as it was when we bought
it, which says a lot. It is cotton,
after all. The material seems softer, more
worn. We got it last year about this
time. I can’t believe it’s still
around. Their clothing hangs around a
little longer these days than it did when they were small.
I know why it looks worn – she pulls on it. How I wish she’d forget about covering up the
parts she wants to hide. When did she
start doing this? Just this year.
I’m so glad she changed before we left yesterday. She still needs to be reminded that
roller-skating is sweaty business.
She’s taller on skates.
Almost lanky. In two years she’ll
probably be wearing my shoes.
But that shirt. It
still fits.
I wish there was a magical way to tell girls her age that they couldn't possibly be more beautiful, and have them believe it.
ReplyDeleteSomething vicious happens around age 10. It is unacceptable.
DeleteI can almost feel the bitter sweetness of your words. :) Teenager can be really hard and I wish it's easier them.
ReplyDeleteI was never so sentimental about my kids until they grew older. No end of the baby stage tears for this Mama. But now that they are starting to spread their wings, I want to hold them tight.
DeleteThis is why I let my kids where my shirts. Considering my height, the shirts are longer than dresses on them.
ReplyDeleteAnd...holy crap, this is what teenagers are like isn't it?
Good idea about the shirts. Although as they get older, you may have to buy longer shirts.
DeleteAs for the teen years, steel yourself. It's happening here, and it will your way, too.
